August 2nd ~ Friendship Day

In 1935, the US Congress decided that the first Sunday of August would be National Friendship Day.  Given the times, one can understand the need for celebration and friendship.  The idea of honoring friends and friendship quickly became popular, and Friendship Day became an annual event.

Friendship Day is now celebrated in several countries around the globe.  While our traditions may vary from country to country, the central idea is the same: to honor our friends and to be friendly to all those with whom we come into contact.
